A global community engaged art project in response to Covid-19 and the climate crisis

The Conference of the Birds is an ancient epic poem by Sufi poet Farid ud-Din Attar. It tells the story of the assembly of the birds, in a time of existential crisis.

The birds embark on a journey and search for the “Simorgh,” a mythical majestic bird which has been likened to the phoenix. They are led by the wisest bird through seven valleys to find the Simorgh and enlightenment. Each Valley has a challenge and an exploration into who we are and what we can become.

This Conference is a conference of artists and communities gathered as an international collaborative that will create a global network to explore new forms of engagement, creation, performance, and online digital experiences. It is a direct response to the challenges we face when dealing with the impact of Covid19 and the climate crisis on a personal, economic, environmental, political, local, national, and international scale.

Connect with us

Every sunrise heralds us into an adventure, a quest for the day. As the birds sing this golden orb into place, we wake to a new consciousness and for a moment we are still and one with nature. Be like the birds and hold that liminal moment as your body warms and wakens. It is in the moments like dawn that we are truly alive. It is the awakening of awareness of our connection to earth and its cycles that get us through the troubles and catastrophes that man makes. Be like the birds and see the world anew with every flight at dawn.

The Hoopoe came forward and placed herself in the middle of the birds. On her breast was the ornament that sympolised she had entered the way of spiritual knowledge, on her head was the crown of truth, and she had knowledge of both good and evil. So begins the quest for the conference of the birds. So began our journey as artists working in communities across 7 different countries. Follow us and the work that is being shared.
